Ottawa Titans:
In its early days as Bytown, Ottawa was a community of
entrepreneurs. Philemon Wright, Lieutenant-Colonel John By, Thomas
MacKay, Nicholas Sparks, John Egan, J. R. Booth, E. B. Eddy and Thomas
Ahearn were pioneers responsible for the evolution of lumbering,
agriculture, sawmills, manufacturing, water transportation, rail and
electricity. If it made money, they were involved. Through the stories
of these eight intriguing businessmen, the development of our capital
identity is revealed. These capital titans, in working toward their
dreams, flavoured the region – and the country – with their strong
personalities and opinions. Their legacy is still felt today.
